Tuesday 1 January 1963

00-04
On this very first day of '63
We're moored at Messina, In Sicily.
Out lines out to starboard doubly secure
So that inclement weather will easily endure,
and close to our port an LST lies -
The good WALDO COUNTY, who fast to us ties.
Number two boiler is the one that we're using
For we can never tell when we'll have to start cruising,
And affording us light, power and heat
Number two generator helps warm our feet.
A rubber hose from the ship to the pier
Conveys us fresh water - when we'd much rather beer.
Modified YOKE on the ship now is set,
In the hope that - if sinking - we'll not get too wet.
SOPA is TELFAIR - a block up the street -
And he has his orders from COM SIXTH FLEET!
One more entry and I'll finish my rhymes
Happy New Year Ship -mates, and prosperous times!
